The life journey

Analogies to journeys are so frequent it’s almost ridiculous to continue using them in any sort of examples. However, it is the first one that popped up in my mind when thinking about a person’s life “agenda”.
When you are young, it feels like being in the first day of a 2weeks vacation. You are excited about it, you plan ahead (or not?), you think you will do this and that! You will visit a lot of things, experience a lot, eat various cuisine, relax, read, socialize, meet new people, get tanned, ski, swim or walk, take pictures and so many others.
The more you get to the return date, the narrower your options are. You may hurry up and still try to squeeze in lots of bullets on your initial list. As 1-2 days are left, you admit many items will not be ticked, not this time. In holidays, there’s always the thought of a next time.

Well, in life it’s a bit different. There might be another time to do some things but not in this life you have right now. When you are young, you imagine doing so many things. So many roads ahead to get explored. So many things to be learnt. But later you realize you can only grab a small part of this beautiful complex world. Lots of places you may never reach, lots of people you will never meet or meet again, thousands of books you’d enjoy reading had you had the time, lots of sports or crafts you might have loved to master, an infinity of experiences you have not lived…
The later times in life come with that wisdom leading you to admit that the world is too complex for you to conquer, no matter who you are and what great things you’ve done. There are always, undoubtedly, white lists of things you wanted to do but had to let go, eventually…
This is it. We have to learn, on our own, to aspire for what is achievable and be grateful for what we live. Enjoying life as much as possible and trying to live it fully, but acknowledging that there’ll always be unexplored territories we’ll never reach…
